NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball says it got the replay call right in ruling that the Miami Marlins catcher blocked the plate, but it took too long. The disputed play happened Thursday night in the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 victory over Miami. The score was 1-1 in the top of the eighth. Initially, the plate umpire called Cincinnatis Zack Cozart out. The 6-minute, 10-second review using the instant replay system over-ruled the call and extended the inning. Ryan Ludwick delivered a two-run single to help the Reds win. MLB said the catcher "did not provide a lane to the runner and hindered his path to the plate without possession of the ball." The statement added that the "exorbitant length" of the review was more than three times the season average and "must be avoided in the future." Phil Haynes Youth Jersey . NEW YORK -- Vancouver Canucks forward Zack Kassian has been suspended for three games for a hit on Brenden Dillon of the Dallas Stars. Kassian received a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct for the hit in the first period of Thursdays game in Dallas. Dillon was attempting to dump the puck into the Canucks zone before going to the Stars bench when Kassian approached him from behind and drove him hard into the boards. The NHL says a suspension waas warranted because Kassian didnt make any effort to avoid or minimize the contact and hit Dillon with "significant force.dddddddddddd" "Kassian has enough time to avoid this check entirely or at the very least minimize his force," the league says in a video on its website. Dillon was shaken up but did return to the game in the second period. Kassian has been suspended before for high-sticking and is considered a repeat offender. ' ' '
