Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Kemba Walkers layup with 0.3 seconds to play helped the Charlotte Hornets hold off a late New York Knicks surge and end their 10-game losing streak with a thrilling 103-102 victory on Friday. Carmelo Anthony gave the Knicks a 102-101 lead off a wide-open 3 from the left side with 40.7 seconds to play. After each team missed a jump shot, the Hornets took a timeout with four seconds to play after Marvin Williams rebounded Anthonys miss. Coming out of the timeout, Walker raced up to the top of the arc to receive the inbound pass and darted through the key, laying the ball off the glass and into the net for the deciding basket as the buzzer sounded. Gerald Henderson finished with a season-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, Al Jefferson had 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Lance Stephenson also scored 16 points for Charlotte, which won its first game since Nov. 14 at Phoenix. Anthony had a game-high 32 points, while J.R. Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. supplied 14 and 13 points, respectively, off the bench in the Knicks seventh straight loss. The Hornets led by as much as 21 points after Hendersons layup with 2:31 to play in the third quarter, but the Knicks mounted a furious comeback, A pair of Hardaway triples book-ended a 18-8 spurt that whittled Charlottes lead down to 97-89 with 6:02 remaining in the game. Anthony netted four points before Smiths triple from the right wing cut the lead to five points with two minutes to play. After Pablo Prigioni stole the ball from Jefferson, Anthony made it a one-possession game for a 101-99 score with 1:22 left. Charlotte pulled away from the Knicks with a 10-3 run in the final minutes of the first quarter. After a PJ Hairston 3-pointer, Bismack Biyombo followed with an alley oop and another slam and the Hornets took a 31-21 lead into the second. Smith netted the Knicks first nine points of the second quarter to cut the deficit to 35-30 just over four minutes into the frame, but Williams responded with a jumper and a trey to quickly restore Charlottes 10-point advantage. The Hornets led 57-45 at halftime. The two teams traded baskets early in the third stanza, but Hendersons fadeaway jumper capped a 6-0 burst and his shot from beyond the arc three minutes later extended Charlottes lead to 80-60 with 3:04 to go in the frame. Just whichever one gets him on the field. When the Seattle Seahawks signed Tukuafu at midseason, it was for the sole purpose of being a fullback. Even though he had a history of playing on the defensive line, both in college and in his first NFL stop at San Francisco, the Seahawks were in need of a lead blocker for Marshawn Lynch.Because of injuries, Tukuafus ability to play both sides of the ball has turned out to be a value.Hes just an athlete, Seattle defensive end Michael Bennett said. Hes been able to play fullback, play defensive end, whatever we need him to play. I think hes doing a good job for us. You see him come in and some of the holes hes opened up for Marshawn is amazing and the things he does on defence is amazing, too.Tukuafu signed with Seattle in late October after starting fullback Derrick Coleman was lost for the season to a broken foot suffered in pregame warmups before the Seahawks loss at St. Louis. Tukuafu had been working out in Oregon and made the drive up Interstate 5 to join the Seahawks. At the time, the discussions were strictly about what he could provide as a fullback.I just come in and work every day and whatever they ask me to do I try and do to the best of my ability, Tukuafu said. Whether offence, defence, special teams or if its just offence or whatever, its just going out here and doing my best.Tukuafu entered the NFL as a defensive lineman. Through the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the 49ers, Tukuafu aappeared in 18 regular-season games on the defensive line.ddddddddddddBut late in the 2012 season, Tukuafu started to go in as a fullback in goal-line and short-yardage situations.Came in one day and they switched my number to 48 and was a fullback from then on, Tukuafu said. Fullback and (defensive) line but more so fullback.Tukuafu appeared in only five games last season for San Francisco — three of those coming in the playoffs — and the Seahawks were more than happy to pick him up when the need arose for a fullback. His defensive line experience eventually came in handy. When the Seahawks went to Kansas City in Week 11, they had just lost defensive tackle Brandon Mebane for the season to a hamstring injury. They needed an additional body to try to stop the run and Tukuafu became the option. He played four defensive snaps against the Chiefs; had another four against San Francisco in Week 15; played six snaps at Arizona in Week 16; and was in for three defensive plays against St. Louis in the season finale. But most of his time has been on the offensive side as Lynchs lead blocker and part of a Seattle run game that finished the year as the best in the NFL, averaging more than 172 yards per game. Its easy when you have a guy like Marshawn back there, Tukuafu said. Him and (Russell Wilson) and (Robert Turbin) ... you have guys like that and the (offensive) line that we have I wouldnt expect anything less.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '
